Today the world soccer community mourns the loss of 75 Associação Chapecoense de Futebol players, coaches, and media to a tragic plane crash. The team was traveling from their native Brazil to Columbia for the finals match of the Copa Sudamericana.
The thoughts and prayers of the entire E Pluribus Loonum staff are with the friends, family, and fans of Chapecoense. The club - which rose from the fourth-tier of Brazilian soccer - was a Cinderella story this season as they battled their way to the Copa finals. Their rise was compared to Leicester City’s performance last season.
The pain of this loss is a stinging reminder of how soccer brings together and binds players, teams, and fans from around the world. Though several thousand miles separates our small club from theirs, our hearts are heavy with grief after losing so many brothers in the Beautiful Game.
