Sharpen your pencil and bust out that yearly planner (people still use those things, right?), it’s time to circle some of the biggest dates for soccer during the coming year!
2017 is an absolutely fantastic time to be a soccer fan, particularly in Minnesota. With both Minnesota United and Minneapolis City SC taking a step up to new leagues (MLS and NPSL, respectively), there will be more soccer played locally at a higher level than any other time in recent memory.
A few key dates that you should know:
- January 23: MLS pre-season begins! Minnesota’s roster will really take shape by late January when players are expected to report to camp. Here we go!
- February 9-15: Pre-season tournament hosted by the Portland Timbers. Get to know this squad well, folks. We will soon be battling the Timbers during the regular season in the MLS West Conference.
- March 3-5: MLS opening weekend!
- Late July: MLS All-Star Game. Will any Loons earn the chance to attend? Time will tell. If rumors of Ramirez, Ibarra, and Colindres pan out, we may very well have representation.
