Minnesota United has made a key signing today in the position that needs it the most-fullback. Swiss defender Jérôme Thiesson has officially signed with the club. The 5’9” player can play either right-back or left-back, as well as in defensive midfield which provides depth at some of the shallowest positions on the team.

Thiesson is arriving from FC Luzern of the Swiss Super League, where he made 98 appearances in 6 seasons. He has made 10 appearances so far in the 2016/17 campaign. A native of Zürich, Thiesson has made an appearance with the Swiss U-21 team.

The financial terms of the deal have not been released and Thiesson must obtain his P1-visa. He is expected to fill Minnesota United’s 10th international slot.

Thiesson can compete for a starting role beginning in tomorrow’s preseason friendly against Toronto FC in Orlando.
