It looks like Sam Nicholson will be a Loon after all.
The Edinburgh News is reporting that the 22-year-old is set to sign a 2-and-a-half-year contract with Minnesota United this weekend.
Nicholson will be joining MNUFC over offers from England and offers to stay in Scotland. Reports said that Glasgow’s Rangers FC were interested but Nicholson has made his decision.
Because the Hearts Academy product is joining an American side, Hearts will receive no compensation. But, Nicholson has requested that a sell-on clause be added to his MNUFC contract so that in the event that the Loons sell him, Hearts will see some benefit as well. It appears that once the terms of this clause are worked out, Nicholson will be joining the club.
Nicholson made his first-team debut in 2013, but his most reason season was bogged down by injury. Hopefully, he can provide some immediate depth for a Loons side that is also facing some injury problems of their own.
Edit: The Scotsman has since picked up this report, too.
