The Loons head west and across the border to take on the Vancouver Whitecaps. Our friends at Eighty Six Forever answer three questions that we had about their team:
1) Anyone who watched Canada in the Gold Cup came away amazed by Alphonso Davies. What is the long-term plan for the young kid?
MLS starter, if he's still around. The belief is that he'll be sold to a club in Europe before the 2019 season as he turns 18 at the end of next season.
2) A chunk of MNUFC fans like to accuse the team of being "cheap," you guys recently ran a story about the Whitecaps with the same premise. With how successful the team has been this season, what advice do you have about dealing with a team that seemingly keeps the pocketbooks shut?
Patience. There's 2 levels of cheap in MLS: salary cheap or transfer cheap. I would classify the Caps as the latter. Salary cheap means your acquisitions look more like Michael Boxall over Ethan Finlay. Not using. Transfer cheap means that you're looking for a specific type of player and not willing to shell out megabucks to do it.
3) The top 3 places in the West are currently held by Cascadia. Are we gearing for a Cascadia Cup - MLS Playoff edition?
There's already been 2 Cascadia matchups in the MLS playoffs. 2013 saw Portland beat Seattle and 2015 saw all 3 teams make the playoffs with Portland defeating Vancouver and Dallas defeating Seattle in the Conference SF round.
