When you can’t always get what you want... you get someone who is left unprotected during the expansion draft and trade them away for what you need. The former RBNY right back made 67 appearances across all competitions for the New Jersey-based side before moving to the Great White North with a layover in the little brother of the Great White North.
What did he do?
Duvall is another one the Loons picked up from their inaugural season expansion draft and subsequently traded away.

How did he leave?
Duvall was traded to the Montreal Impact hours after being picked up by the Loons in the expansion draft. In return, the Loons got one Johan Venegas and an undisclosed amount of allocation money. Duvall made 32 appearances for Montreal last year across all competitions, including two in the Champions League. Montreal had a surplus of attacking players and Venegas as never going to get into the team over Ignacio Piatti. On the other hand, their only right back was 33 year old Hassoun Camara, now retired. They needed a right back, and the Loons needed, well, anyone. Venagas had 41 appearances for Montreal and only three goals and two assists. Despite this, Montreal still had to tack on allocation money to pry Duvall from the Loons and he has been a staple in their lineup ever since. One might wonder what the Loons backline might look like today with Duvall locking down one of the outside back spots, especially with Venegas plying his trade in Costa Rica this season.
Where is he now?
Duvall is still in Montreal and has 44 appearances for the Impact over the past two years. He has missed the last four games with a calf injury, but his last game on July 15th marked his 100th MLS regular season game, a very respectable mark by any means. While his two and six assists don’t exactly set the world alight, he has started almost every game he has been available for both RBNY and Montreal.
