Mason Toye will be joining the Colorado Springs Switchbacks of the United Soccer League (USL).
The move was confirmed by the club Wednesday afternoon.
According to Megan Ryan of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Toye will play for the USL team this weekend but return to the Loons as part of a recall option.
Toye is be the third and final member of the current rookie class to go out on loan. Defender Wyatt Omsberg spent a stint with the Tulsa Roughnecks and fullback Carter Manley is currently with Las Vegas Lights FC.
It’s something we have been trying to address for a while,” said Head Coach Adrian Heath in the press release. “Mason has clearly got loads of talent and he has showed glimpses with the first team. This is a great opportunity for him to start to play more football week in and week out. He has a ton of upside, but needs more time playing against professionals in competitive matches. He’s going to benefit immensely from this.”
Major League Soccer’s secondary transfer window closes at 11:59 CT on Wednesday.
