Minnesota United have signed fullback Romain Metanire from Stade de Reims of France’s Ligue 1, according to reports from the Star Tribune and Pioneer Press.

Metanire was born in France but represents Madagascar’s national team. He has made three appearances for his country.

Reims were promoted to the French top division this season after winning Ligue 2 last year. Metanire appeared in 37 games last season but has only played in 5 so far this season.

He has appeared for two other clubs (Metz of France and Kortrijk of Belgium) in his eight-year career. The 28-year-old has registered 2 goals and 10 assists in his 202 appearances.

Metanire is expected to play as a right back for the Loons and occupy and international slot.

United’s preseason begins on Monday.
