Coming off of a 1-0 victory of DC United, Minnesota United returned to training Tuesday morning. The team practiced on their outdoor grass field on a chilly morning as light rain fell. As per usual, the starting 11 from the weekend match were excused early. Most went inside while a group of four played soccer tennis.
Darwin Quintero was absent from the outdoor session with an ankle injury sustained over the weekend. He exited the match Sunday shortly after receiving a cortisone injection at halftime. Adrian Heath told the media that the Colombian’s ankle injury is “better than we thought” and that he had a light workout inside. His status for the weekend remains uncertain.
All eyes are on captain Ozzie Alonso as he prepares for the first match against the team he played with for 10 years. After bringing the Sounders success in The MLS Cup, The US Open cup, and multiple Concacaf Champions League appearances Ozzie said its going to be emotional but he is here for Minnesota. He told the media that Ike Opara said to the team “This one’s for Ozzie” as the team prepares to rally behind him this weekend.
