Minnesota United announced today that they have signed forward Aaron Schoenfeld from Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Israeli Premier League.

The 29-year-old has three years of MLS experience with the Columbus Crew before playing the last three years in Israel. At Columbus, he had five goals and three assists in 51 appearances (14 starts) with the team from 2012-15. In 71 appearances with Maccabi Tel Aviv he had nine goals and 11 assists.

United acquired his MLS rights from Columbus Crew SC in exchange for a second round 2021 MLS SuperDraft pick and potential incentive-based considerations.

“Aaron gives us extra strength and depth at the forward position,” Head Coach Adrian Heath said. “He’s been in the league, he’s experienced. And we know that during the year, Mason [Toye] will be at the Olympics and the strength and depth is going to be necessary. Between Aaron, [Luis] Amarilla and Mason, we feel as though we’re in a really good spot.” (Source: MLS)

Schoenfeld is United’s third forward on the roster, alongside Mason Toye and Luis Amarilla. Toye is the only forward left from 2019, as this offseason has seen Darwin Quintero, Angelo Rodriguez and Abu Danladi leaving United via trade or loan.

Commenting more on the newest Loon signing, Heath said “We feel as though he was great value for the money and — having worked with him before because we tried to sign him in Orlando — he’s a great kid, and we think he’ll fit into what we’re trying to build here”
