USWNT to play at Allianz Field in October

For the third time since 2016 the USWNT will play a match in Minnesota

Yesterday afternoon Minnesota United FC and US Soccer officially announced that the United States Women’s National Team will play a match at Allianz Field in October. The match will complete the final stretch of the USWNT’s 2021 schedule. Prior to playing at Allianz Field the USWNT will face Paraguay on September 16th at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland, OH then TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, OH then in October they’ll play South Korea at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, KS.

Those four matches will come inside the last six weeks of the National Women’s Soccer League season. The matches in Cleveland and and Kansas City, KS will be televised on ESPN2. While the ones in Cincinnati and St. Paul will be televised on FS1. Spanish coverage will be provided by TUDN for all four matches.

This is at least the 12th match the USWNT will play in Minnesota. The first nine of which were at the were played in Blaine with the two in 1986 and four in 1987 being played at the Blaine Soccer Complex. The three played in 1990 were played at the newly built and opened National Sports Center.

Recently the USWNT has made three appearances in the North Star State. In 2016 they defeated Switzerland 5-1 in front of a crowd of 23,400 at US Bank Stadium. In 2019 they made their debut in St. Paul as they defeated Portugal 3-0 in front of a crowd of 19,600 at Allianz Field.
