Just over 24 hours ahead of Minnesota’s trip to Houston the Loons have lined up and signed another forward to their roster. MLS veteran Fanendo Adi will be coming to play for Minnesota United. The 30 year old Nigerian has played for three different MLS sides and a total of eight clubs during his decade long career.
“Obviously, he’s very experienced within the league, scored goals within the league, has won an MLS Cup. Two of my staff members here — Sean McCauley and Cameron Knowles — have worked with Adi for years and know everything there is to know about him.” Heath said about the signing.
Adi’s last spell came in the pandemic stricken 2020 season where he suited up for the Columbus Crew and played a total of 12 matches with the club between the regular season and MLS Is Back Tournament. Adi has dealt with his spell of injuries during the last few seasons playing in MLS, however the injury history doesn’t seem to be the current case with his condition.
He’s a very impressive size: you look at him, he’s a huge man, but he’s in really good condition. I was pleasantly surprised when I looked at his age, he’s 30, so there’s plenty more years in him. We think it’s a really good move for both parties. He wants to get his career back going again and we’ve been delighted with that we’ve seen since we’ve had him in training with us.”
As the Loons prepare to head to Houston for their 21st match of the season, this signing looks to provide some massive depth for a squad currently struggling on the attack and injury list. Minnesota has seven players (Fragapane, Greguš, Hansen, Lod, McMaster, Reynoso, and newly acquired Joseph Rosales) while Agudelo is listed as questionable.
As Adi has been training with the Loons recently there is a chance that he could be on the matchday roster tomorrow, though it is not official as of yet. However with the amount of players out the Loons need everyone they can get to be available for tomorrow night’s match with the Houston Dynamo.
