As Minnesota United hits the halfway mark of the 2021 season this weekend it’s time to check in on the players MNUFC has on loan. That number currently sits at just three players after Foster Langsdorf’s retirement last week.
Noah Billingsley - Phoenix Rising FC (USL Championship)
Billingsley was the second of the players currently out on loan to be sent. He headed to Phoenix in mid-April a few weeks before Rising started their 2021 season. Since joining Rising he has made 6 appearances, 1 start, and been named on the roster just 7 times.
Billingsley has also totaled 3 yellow cards and 121 minutes played in his 6 appearances. His last significant appearance was July 18th against LA Galaxy II where he came on as a sub and played 18 minutes.
Thomás Chacón - Liverpool (Uruguayan Primera División)
Chacón was the first MNUFC player sent out for loan in 2021. The young (and at the time DP) hadn’t seen much playing time with the Loons in his two years in Minnesota. He combined for a total of just six appearances in just over 18 months with MNUFC.
Since joining Uruguay’s Liverpool Fútbol Club and since their season started in May, Chacón has made more appearances for Liverpool than he has with Minnesota United. Chacón has been named to the roster in all 12 matches Liverpool has played and has made eight appearances for them. Out of those eight matches he has started four and been subbed on in the other four combining for a total of 347 minutes.
In that time frame he has received two yellow cards and also scored a goal in the clubs last match against Montevideo City Torque.
Callum Montgomery - San Diego Loyal (USL Championship)
Montgomery was the last of the three current players on loan for MNUFC to be sent out. Heading to San Diego in early June, he joined former NASL and MLS Loon Miguel Ibarra at the Landon Donovan owned and run club. While the Loons acquired him in the offseason, Monstgomery actually did not make any appearances with the side prior to being loaned out.
Since joining Loyal on Loan in June he has made appearances in 8 of the 11 possible matches. Out of those 8 he has started 6 of them and been subbed on in the other two totaling 545 minutes played. The defender has also accumulated one goal and one yellow card while with Loyal in USLC.
Other Notes
Adrián Zendejas and Nabilai Kibunguchy were loaned out to El Paso Locomotive (Zendejas) and Sacramento Republic (Kibunguchy) respectively. However neither player is listed being out on loan on MNUFC’s roster as of 8/6/2021. Zendejas is also not listed on the El Paso Locomotive website on their roster either, however he is listed on the USL Championship website.
Zendejas made three starts for Locomotive this year taking home three clean sheets. Kibunguchy has made a total of six appearances and started three of those for Sacramento. Kibunguchy was given a red card at 45+4’ in Republic’s match against Orange County SC.
