The match on Saturday against the Chicago Fire took some time to get going. Both teams were scoreless come halftime.
The Loons ramped up the action late in the second half. Bongokuhle Hlongwane had another impressive appearance off the bench after replacing Luis Amarilla in the 62'.
Ten minutes later Hlongwane assisted Emanuel Reynoso for the opening goal.
Just a few minutes later Chicago Fire midfielder Federico Navarro was issued a second yellow and was subsequently sent off. Chicago Fire players spouted their objections as they attempted to persuade the referee to look up and watch the replay above The Wonderwall.
The crowd serenaded Navarro to their rendition of the 1969 song, "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye". Navarro eventually headed back to the locker room and this opened up the field a bit more for the Loons. Kervin Arriaga headed in a ball crossed over by Reynoso. Minnesota quickly capitalized on the player advantage once again as Hlongwane threaded a pass to Robin Lod to make it 3-0.
Dayne St. Claire made four saves to earn another clean sheet and further the calls to move up Canada's goalkeeper depth chart.
The Loons now sit fifth in the West with five points from the top. Minnesota United heads to California to take on LAFC on May 1st.
