Mingo Monday: Still in the hunt

The Flamingos outshot FC Tucson, but were unable to score to secure a win

Justin Nuoffer, Forward Madison FC

Forward Madison faced off this past weekend with FC Tucson as the Flamingos looked to start a winning streak once again and start moving up the USL League One standings. Over the course of the 90 minutes plus stoppage time Forward Madison would outshoot Tucson 19 to 4. However only one of those shots from Madison would end up on target and it unfortunately did not end up in the net.

With one shot on goal combined between the teams the match would end up in a stalemate nil-nil draw in Wauwatosa, WI. And both Madison and Tucson would leave with just a single point to their names.

You can view the full highlights of Madison vs Tucson below.

After 12 weeks through the USL League One season each team has between 3 and 5 matches left to play. Currently, Greenville Triumph sit on top of the standings with 31 points and just three matches to play. The Triumph can almost certainly secure the USL1 final as a at home with just one more point. Expansion side Union Omaha is sitting in second place with 22 points and three matches left.

Below the playoff line are Richmond Kickers with 20 points, Chattanooga Red Wolves with 18 points, and Forward Madison FC with 15 points. Both the Kickers and Madison have 5 matches left and 15 possible points, which makes it very possible the teams will make the final. The Red Wolves on the other hand has 4 matches left with 12 possible points. While Chattanooga cannot claim the final at home they have a nice shot at getting in.

Heading down to the bottom half of the table only Orlando City B has been completely eliminated from playoff contention. Everyone else has very slim chances, but are still mathematically alive in the hunt. South Georgia can be eliminated with a loss and either an Omaha win or draw or a Richmond win regardless of what Omaha does. Fort Lauderdale could be higher in the points than almost anyone and be eliminated next as if they do not win on Friday night they will be out of the hunt for the playoffs. And with also three matches left, sixth place Tucson could see their playoff hopes disappear if they do not win on Wednesday night.
