Matchweek 1 Recap:
Salvo SC vs Dakota Fusion FC
Salvo strolled to a first win of the season against a Fusion side making its season debut in Roseville. Despite a saved free kick and hitting the crossbar, the visitors were very rarely able to escape the Salvo pressure, and the goals came in bursts, with the first in the 5th minute from Haakenson after a free kick, and the second in the 8th from Ward at the end of a flowing move from their own half. An own-goal after pinball from a Salvo freekick was scored in the 37th minute. It was 3-0 at half time. Bruce made it four in the 68th minute and Kalkar made it 5-0 in the 78th minute, both from pinpoint crosses. The final two goals came late, with an 85th minute penalty from Langdok, who followed up with an assist two minutes later on a DelMoral chip of the keeper to complete the rout.
Maplebrook Fury vs Dakota Fusion FC
Fury pulled away from their visitors with a blast and a close range finish by Harper. A defensive error let in Claire Odmark for the Fury’s third goal, before Lauren Roberts completed the scoring on the counterattack.
Maplebrook Fury vs Mankato United SC
Mankato made their bow with a 1-1 draw. Harper opened the scoring with Maplebrook’s goal in the 11th minute and Mankato scored their first ever goal in the 23rd minute through Kato product Maddy Burandt from a corner.
Matchweek 2 Schedule*:
Salvo SC vs Maplebrook Fury
The early leaders in the 2019 standings meet for the second and final time of the young season. Both clubs are coming off wins against Dakota Fusion last weekend at home while Salvo also played an additional match that ended in a draw with Mankato. When the teams faced off in Maple Grove just two weeks ago it ended in a 1-1 draw. If either team can garner 3 points it will give them a nice lead in the all important standings going forward.
Rochester United FC vs Mankato United SC
Mankato United heads down the road to take on Rochester United for a Friday night battle between Southern Minnesota’s only two high level (NPSL or WPSL) amateur clubs. The Lions will play their first ever match and first home match, giving us a chance to see them for the first time. The ladies from the Key City are already well familiar with each other, both in and out of their green and black colors, as most of them also play for Minnesota State-Mankato. MUSC will have the advantage as they are well versed together as Mavericks and drew 1-1 last weekend on the road against Maplebrook Fury.
Fire SC 98 vs Maplebrook Fury
The heavy favorites this year and by far the best team (outside of Red Stars Reserves) from last year make their 2019 debut on Sunday evening. Fire 98 will hope for a good crowd as they play in the shadow of Allianz Field and kick off shortly after the Minnesota United match will end. While Fire 98 has a new look Maplebrook has done very well so far in 2019 and is the clear leader and will hope to add 3 more points as Fury hits the halfway mark of their season.
Dakota Fusion FC vs Salvo SC
Salvo heads to Fargo for their second game of the week and the second consecutive week they face Dakota Fusion. The 0-0-2 Fusion will host their first match of the season and look to be less embarrassed this week after dropping a 7-0 loss in Week 2.
