Recap: Loons edge out Rapids

A Rapids own goal would give the Loons the goal they needed for the win.

Minnesota United faced off with Colorado Rapids tonight at Allianz Field in St. Paul. And on a cold Minnesota fall the Loons were able to fly away with a one goal win over the visiting Rapids.

Thw Starting XI looked a bit different than the one from Saturday against FC Cincinnati. Due to the “gentleman’s agreement” we mentioned in our preview, Kei Kamara is off the 18 and out of the XI. Along with Kamara, Finlay and Gasper are also off the Starting XI. They have been replaced by Aaron Schoenfeld at the Number 9 spot, Emanuel Reynoso jumps into the Number 10 with Molino shifting to the left side and Lod jumping to the right. Dibassy moved to LB, Boxall to LCB, Kallman would get the start at RCB, and Metanire would stay at RB.

The first 25 minutes of the match didn’t look too good for Minnesota. Adrian Heath would say at halftime:

“We were second best to every first ball, second best to every second ball”

At the 28 minute mark another issue arose as an injured Ozzie Alonso went off and Jacori Hayes came on for the Loons.

However the last half of the first half looked much better for MNUFC. And while it would take almost the entire first half, the Loons would break open the scoring. Reynoso would send a nice through ball to Ethan Finlay who one touched it in the back of the net.

Only 17 minutes into the second half Minnesota United would make their second sub of the night. This time Emanuel Reynoso went off and Ethan Finlay came on to replace him in the 62nd minute.

Unfortunately the Loons lead wouldn’t last long after that. In the 69th minute Colorado would even up the score with a goal by Andre Shinyashiki.

Minnesota United would make their final two subs of the match with Raheem Edwards and Marlon Hairston would come on for Aaron Schoenfeld and Jacori Hayes in the 82nd minute.

However it was not down and out for the Loons just yet. Ethan Finlay sent a ball into the box attempted for Raheem Edwards. Colorado’s Lalas Abubakar would end up heading the ball into his own goal to give the Loons a 2-1 lead.
