Notebook: MNUFC’s draw with RSL is a snoozer for some and hard fought for others.

For most fans the match on Friday night looked to be a snoozer but that wasn’t the thought by Adrian Heath and Co.

On Friday night Minnesota United faced off with Real Salt Lake in their second match of the MLS Is Back Tournament. A win for the Loons would have guaranteed them a spot in the Knockout stage, a loss and they would need to pull out a win against Colorado to hope to move on. Instead neither of those things happened and the Loons would draw RSL 0-0 in what a lot of people think was an incredibly boring match. That’s how how Adrian Heath looked it though.

“It’s the first time I’ve started a game on a Friday and finished it on a Saturday. So, that’s a new one. I thought we were better than we were against Kansas [City]. We looked a little bit sharper. I thought our ball movement was better. You know, we had a couple of really good opportunities that we didn’t take. But, overall, if you would have said to me after four games of the season, we’ve had 10 points… We always work on two points a game. It’s been a good start.”

A few chances is absolutely right; and our own Eli Hoff broke down everything this morning in Loon Dive, so definately take look at that to see a tactical breakdown of the match.

Goalkeeper Tyler Miller also had a decent match making a few spectacular saves to keep the game at a level 0-0 score. Post match Miller would say.

“Yeah I think for me, obviously a point was a fair result tonight but at the end of the day we can control our destiny, so going forward we know what we have to do when it comes to Wednesday in order to advance.”

Minnesota will now look ahead to their match against Colorado Rapids on Wednesday to cap off the group stage of the tournament. When talking about the result and preparation for Jan Gregus had this to say.

“Well, if somebody said to us that “you’re going to have four points after two games,” I think we would take it. Obviously we wanted to win tonight, but I think it was a fair draw to be honest, and chances on both sides, so kind of a 50-50 game, but we had good possession obviously. With the last game to go in the group, and hopefully, winning for us is still very important and I think we also improved a little bit with the ball today. It was not perfect the first game, was not perfect today again, but yeah like Tyler said, little by little we get better, we get the flow we want to have and I just hope we’re going to continue like that and keep getting points.”
